Couples Face $17,400 Social Security Hit if Trust Fund Goes Insolvent

Advisors working with clients who are counting on supporting their retirement in part through Social Security might need to make some new calculations.

That’s because, if no reforms are enacted and the Social Security trust fund becomes insolvent in 2033 as projected, the program will see a 23% cut in benefits, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan Washington think tank.
